Siksika Nation’s SORAH Awarded Land for Indigenous Housing Development

A significant milestone in Indigenous housing has been reached, as Siksika Off-Reserve Affordable Housing (SORAH) has been awarded a parcel of land in Calgary’s southeast quadrant for a new affordable residential development.

The award was made by the city of Calgary’s Indigenous Housing Team, in consultation with Maa’too’maa’taapii Aoko’iyii’piaya (Indigenous First Nation Housing) Elders Advisory Committee, a reflection of the strong and meaningful relationship between Siksika Nation, SORAH, and the neighbouring city – one built on a foundation of fairness, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to people.

The Erin Woods development will see the construction of 60 townhome units alongside a Welcome Centre on the property, offering both housing and a gathering space for the community. Occupancy is expected by January 2028.

This project marks an important step forward in addressing urban Indigenous housing needs, and demonstrates what is possible when communities and organizations work together with a common purpose.
